WIFI Calling for IOS and Android

Sometimes in the mountains mobile carrier signals can be unreliable.   At Divine Pine Hideaway when indoors the signal can be quite weak.  So enabling WIFI calling fixes this issue, and you will send and receive calls like normal with perfect quality.   Below are the instructions for IOS and Android devices.

Place Wi-Fi calls from your iPhone

To turn on Wi-Fi calling, go to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling. You may need to enter or confirm your address for the emergency services.

If Wi-Fi Calling is available, you’ll see “Wi-Fi” in the status bar while viewing Control Centre. Then your calls will use Wi-Fi Calling.

When mobile service is available, your iPhone will use it for emergency calls. If you’ve turned on Wi-Fi Calling and mobile service isn’t available, emergency calls may use Wi-Fi calling. Your device’s location may be used to aid response efforts when you place an emergency call, regardless of whether you enable Location Services.

Add a device to use it with Wi-Fi calling

  1. Check that the device you want to add has the latest version of software.
  2. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling.
  3. Turn on Add Wi-Fi Calling For Other Devices.
  4. Go back to the previous screen, then tap Calls on Other Devices.
  5. Turn on Allow Calls on Other Devices if it’s not on. A list of your eligible devices will appear under Allow Calls On.
  6. Turn on each device you want to use with Wi-Fi Calling.

Next, make sure your other devices will accept calls from your iPhone:

  • On your iPad, go to Settings > FaceTime. Then turn on Calls from iPhone.
  • On your Mac, open the FaceTime app and choose FaceTime > Settings (or Preferences). Then turn on Calls from iPhone.

Wi-Fi Calling is enabled automatically for Apple Watch when you turn on Allow Calls on Other Devices.

If you can’t add a device:

  • On your iPhone, make sure Wi-Fi Calling and Allow Calls on Other Devices are turned on, and that your device appears under Allow Calls On.
  • Make sure you’re using the same Apple ID for FaceTime and iCloud on your iPhone and your other device.

Make Calls over WIFI on Android Devices

Not all support calls over WIFI but most do in Australia.  Important:  Some of these steps only work on Android 6.0 and up.

Turn on WIFI calling on Android

Important:  you may incur additional charges for making calls over WIFI, so check with your mobile services provider for details.  Note:  We have not seen or heard of Australian carriers charging for this.

  1. Open the Phone app
  2. Tap More Settings
  3. Tap Calls
  4. Tap WI-FI calling.  if you don’t see this option, it’s because your carrier doesn’t support this feature.
  5. You can use WIFI calling without a service on some carriers
  6. If your carrier doesn’t offer WI-FI calling, you can still do so through a voice over IP services.

Place a call using WIFI

Once you’ve set up WIFI calling, you can make a call over WIFI just like any other call.  When you’re connected to the internet, you’ll see “Internet Call” or WIFI calling on the notification screen.

When your not connected to WIFI, your calls will use your mobile carrier, if you have one.
